Female hula belt.. your hip shaking .. eye catching south pacific “titi”

The female hula belt called the “ Titi” is the Polynesian version of a belt to accessorise a hula costume. Other countries have their names for this type of accessory. Samoa is one such country, they call their belt a titi but pronounced Kiki! or the full name titi fulumoa which means belt of feathers from a chicken.

Tahiti as like the Cook Islands use the term titi for their feathery belt accessory. This accessory is more commonly used in a hula drum dance performance to give the illusion of the female hips being able to move in ways they should not be able to. Also it exaggerates the hip shaking movements to look bigger than they really are, that is the illusion.

“Hula Costume”

This female hula belt the titi has over time changed it’s appearance many times over from your simple material cloth belt decorated with sea shells, or made out of flax type plantation lashed together in a half umbrella shape, to today being more colourful and having more man made features that are brighter.

“BUT” the added effect of feathers in different colours is what makes the titi more fuller in thickness than it is and gives this South Pacific belt a real thrust on the hips of a female hula dancer and her performance.

Like a magician he wants to create an affect to make your eyes see only what he conjurors up for you to see, this is the same effect a Polynesian belt called a titi does to the observer.

Your eyes will follow .. your jaw will drop .. and you will be entertained beyond imagination with something so simple that helps a hula dancers body to put on a unforgettable show.
