Hula hand method .. a step by step guide to hand and arm coordination
"Hula hand method" is the add-on movement required for how to hula dance. The swaying of the hips and still shoulders, are truly complemented by the "hand and arm method" for a female hula dancer.
Combining the hip sway and hand/arm motions is an advanced step when doing the hula. Experienced Polynesian performers achieve this combination "as easy as riding a bike".
Hula Hip Sway Method
Hula hand method only needs some very simple steps Step 1) Make sure that your hand and arm movements are graceful, and have a gliding motion. Step 2) Hand and arm movements are normally left to right, up and down, star jump style and alternating hand and arm actions. There is a big emphasis on arm extension (out stretched arms in all directions) Step 3) The
hula hand method
with the wrist and finger motions are like the ocean waves rolling in and out on the beach, also they can mimic drops of rain, or an egg beater twisting hand movement. With these motions there is also the reverse wrist twirl towards your body like the Maori welcome hand gesture "Haera mai" Step 4) When arms are in a bent position, this is usually at a right angle (90'). Straight lines are also important with arm positions in hula dancing Step 5) Always keep your eyes on your hands with the hula hand movements, knowing what your hands and arms are doing, is the window for your audience to follow your dance. Step 6) Always remember to “Smile”
When you combine steps 1 through to 6, add this to your hula hip sway movement and "VOILA!!. You have graduated to the next level of how to hula”.
